The Engine Builders' Group

Informal networking and knowledge-sharing for members making engines of all types. If it hums, hisses, bangs or pops, someone here is interested.

Welcome to the Engine Builders’ Group. Its purpose is to encourage informal networking and knowledge-sharing among SMEE members interested in understanding and making engines of all types.

This includes making tooling, researching ideas, developing methods for production, and experiments in design and performance improvement. If it hums, hisses, bangs or pops, we seem to have someone in the group who is interested!

Talks & ‘Work on the Table’

Talks by members and occasional guest speakers, about their research, efforts and ideas, are popular and are shared live online and, where possible, at Marshall House. Most meetings are recorded and available online via a link on the EBG members’ webpage. There is usually time after a talk for discussion, and an opportunity for members to show progress with their own projects (and sometimes their problems!) as ‘Work on the Table’. All members of SMEE are invited.

Tea Rooms & WhatsApp

Informal ‘Tea Rooms’ are also held online, and there is a useful WhatsApp group. Both offer opportunities to natter and to share ideas and problems.

A worldwide audience

Using Zoom as our online tool has made meetings far more accessible, drawing an audience from all around the UK and further afield. We have regular participants from the United States, Canada, Switzerland and South Africa.

All members of SMEE are invited to Engine Builders’ Group meetings.
